About our Allotment Association
The Ashbourne Road District Allotment Association Ltd was formally established in June 1917.
We can be found on Mackworth Road in Derby and the site covers just over nine acres.
Our aim is to maintain and develop the Allotment Association through supporting Members and their families, to enable them to participate in allotmenteering and to provide an effective, productive and enjoyable community resource.
New members are always welcomed. Vacant plots become available fairly frequently throughout the year and there is invariably a waiting list of prospective plot holders ready to take them on.
The soil on site is productive and reasonably fertile but this can vary between allotments and how the allotments has been used in recent times. The allotments support a huge range of produce. All kinds of vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and bushes can be found growing across the site.
Allotments are a great form of relaxation and exercise but can be challenging at times. Our plot holders are a great group of people who are only too willing to help each other.
The site is owned by Derby City Council and Leased to the Ashbourne Road District Allotment Association Ltd, ARDAA, and is run by a Management Committee, elected at the Annual General Meeting.
All plot holders pay an annual rent for their plots, based on its size.
The ARDAA is registered with, and overseen by, the Financial Conduct Authority as a Registered Society.
