In a record-breaking year Ashbourne Road & District Allotment Association is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award

Today, the Committee is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Ashbourne Road & District Allotment Association

The news that Ashbourne Road Allotment site has achieved the accreditation - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces - is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Ashbourne Road Allotment in achieving a Green Flag Award.

Ashbourne Road Allotment is a vital green space for the community in Derby, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Our dear friend Elaine who has been our volunteer has decided to move on and finish her role as our letting secretary to focus on other hobbies. We all thank her for her dedication in her role over many years.

Our new letting secretary is Len Beardsley who is also a member of the committee. I look forward to working with him in the coming months.

Mundy Room

The committee has agreed to carryout some maintenance work on the Mundy Community room. The work shall be carried out by a number of volunteers over the next month or so.

It will include a new door, painting and decorating, the installation of a new sink and a limited supply of running water which should be drinkable.

If you would like to volunteer and help the committee to paint the room please let me know by sending me an e-mail or posting a note in the post box.

The future

As you know, as advertised on our facebook page, we have place a suggestion box in the Mundy Community Room. The Committee would like to hear from you about how you would like to see the Association grow over the mid to long term.
