April Allotment Breakfast & Seed Swap

Back by popular demand. Dave will be donning his pinny and cooking some delicious breakfast cobs on Saturday April 12th from 11am. We had to have an emergency run to the shops to get more cobs back in February, so recommend you get in there early. No doubt there’ll be some of Jan’s chutneys too.

In addition, Becci will be having a seed swap. You know how it is, you want 4 plants but get 20 seeds in a packet. Well, here’s an opportunity to do some swaps and find something that you may not have thought about trying.

And finally, Julia will be there to chat with you, if you want to find out more about our Open Day on August 2nd.

See you all on the 12th.

Shop Re-opens for 2025

The shop opens again on Saturday February 8th at 11am for the 2025 season.

To celebrate, Dave and Benita will be getting the burners on and preparing some breakfast cobs and hot drinks.

Come join us for a bite and a brew, see what the shop has got to offer for 2025, and catchup with old friends and new.

Rats!

The other day I was asked about rodents nesting in compost heaps and below woodpiles, and what could be done to deter them. I shared a few points I had learned from talking to other plot holders:

• Make your presence known on the plot. If a rat thinks that humans are around, they are less likely to take up residence on your plot.

• Don’t keep food or food on the plot or put food waste into the compost heap / bin.

• Keep you seeds in a container that the rodents can’t get into.

• Secure your shed so they can’t get in.

• And make sure the plot hasn’t got places the rodents can make themselves at home. Wood piles etc.

The National Allotment Society has created a document on the subject and I have copied the link below.

If you haven't looked at the NAS site recently they have some really useful resources.
